ABOUT THE FILM

Meet the Indigenous Guards of the Amazon rainforest.

“Our Children’s River” – a Honnold Foundation film, in partnership with Amazon Frontlines and Alianza Ceibo.

Indigenous guards risk their lives to protect their ancestral lands and one of earth’s most biodiverse places from the threats of extractive industries including mining, oil and logging.

"Our Children's River" follows the Indigenous guard of Sinangoe in Ecuador, one of several Indigenous communities spearheading these efforts. Thanks to the tireless work of their community guard, Sinangoe was able to force miners out of their territory and set a critical precedent for Indigenous people’s right to decide over the future of their rainforest homes.

Patrolling across 63,000 hectares of pristine rainforest, Sinangoe’s guard peacefully monitors and, when necessary, confronts illegal operations, using technology like solar-powered video cameras, drones, and other devices to file formal complaints to authorities and even lawsuits against the bad actors.
