About

The communities within the Huella del Bosque Modelo encompass 32 municipalities in Puerto Rico’s central-western region. These areas are home to committed individuals eager to drive sustainable development, yet they face challenges such as limited government support and decades of infrastructure disinvestment. With abundant natural resources and agricultural land, these communities have significant potential for sustainable growth, making the introduction of renewable energy solutions both timely and catalytic.

We aspire for the development of skills, experiences, and knowledge in renewable energy to increase job opportunities for rural women who wish to enter this field, providing them with tools that foster economic independence, greater energy sustainability, and the conservation of the landscape in the Model Forest.
— Martha Quiñones Domínguez, spokesperson for the Multisectoral Table of the Puerto Rico Model Forest.

HF Partnership

Supported by the Honnold Foundation, the Mesa Multisectorial del Bosque Modelo de Puerto Rico is launching a comprehensive solar training program for 20 women from rural communities. This project will offer 31 training sessions in photovoltaic systems, alongside hands-on practice and internships with solar energy companies. Additionally, five photovoltaic systems will be installed in community centers, serving as reliable energy sources during emergencies and enabling local climate resilience. By equipping women with essential job skills and expanding  access to renewable energy in a highly biodiverse region of Puerto Rico, this initiative aims to empower communities, promote economic independence, and contribute to environmental conservation.
