About

Fundación Naküa’s mission is to foster sustainable livelihoods in Venezuela’s Indigenous communities by connecting them with their cultural heritage and natural environment. The organization works in the Sector 57 community of Puerto Ayacucho, a young community of Indigenous and migrant families. Through educational programs, Naküa is helping participants learn to transform local forest products such as cacao, into value-added goods like chocolate - strengthening local economies.

The Naküa Indigenous Foundation was created as a way for us to work and connect with nature; from the simplest things, like planting a little plant, to learning how to make chocolate from natural products like sweet potatoes and cacao.
— Luz Blanco, Jivi, President of the Indigenous Foundation for the Arts and Culture of Amazonas

HF Partnership

This project funds the construction & solarization of a community training center in Puerto Ayacucho, Venezuela. When complete, the center will be a hub for local producers working to restore deforested lands and protect remaining forests. Through establishing agroforestry systems with high environmental and commercial value, including cacao and acaí, Nakua will alleviate the economic pressure that drives regional deforestation. The center will also serve as a hub for community engagement and cultural education.
